An NHS Fit for the Future

The government is committed to building an NHS fit for the future. We are tackling waiting lists to meet the NHS standard of treating 92% of patients within 18 weeks of referral.

A picture of Leah, a woman in a pink jumper sat in her living room - with a portable hospital screen placed behind her. Text on the image reads "71, 134 more Community Diagnostic Centre appointments in the last 3 months*. *vs previous 3 month period in England".

What does this mean for you?

This means improved access to services and introducing new technologies that modernise the NHS, so you will be seen and treated faster.

We are rolling out and expanding services, including Community Diagnostic Centres (CDCs) to provide tests, checks and scans faster and closer to home, and surgical hubs to deliver millions more operations.

Through these services, the NHS is diagnosing and treating patients earlier and enabling people to better manage their health and care.

We are also building new services, establishing Neighbourhood Health Services in every community and setting up an ‘online hospital’ – NHS Online – digitally connecting patients to expert clinicians anywhere in England.
