The Future of the NHS

We’re not only committed to building an NHS that’s fit for now, but also for the future.

This means rolling out new technologies and digital approaches to modernise the NHS, helping to improve efficiency, reduce wait times and improve patient outcomes.

A new and improved NHS App

Allowing you to book appointments, renew prescriptions and accessing your records all in one place.

The use of AI

From cancer detection and stroke treatment, to transcribing appointments, AI technology is transforming your healthcare. AI is detecting illnesses earlier and freeing up doctors’ time to see more patients, while digital systems means you can get treatment faster.

Investment in kit and technology

£300 million of new capital investment will go into NHS technology, with new digital tools to be rolled out to NHS staff to support their work and improve productivity – by automating administrative tasks and providing swifter access to patient information, as well as ensuring better staff communication and better coordinated care. This will give nurses, physios, doctors, and other staff more time to care and less time on admin.

Digital patient records

We are working to better integrate digital patient records across healthcare providers, including GPs, pharmacies and hospitals, so that all of your information can be connected securely across the NHS.
